violin by Antonio Stradivari, 1726 - The instrument is also sold with a dendrochronological analysis by John C. Topham, Redhill, dated 18th September 2002. This states that the youngest tree-rings measured on the front of the violin date from 1721 (bass side) and 1717 (treble side). It further notes that both pieces significantly cross-match a variety of fronts from other violins made by Antonio Stradivari.

violin by Antonio Stradivari, 1666c (ex Back) - A striking feature of this instrument is the extremely high arch, particularly that of the table. The deep and scooped edgework appears to be influenced by Nicolo's work of the 1650s. By today's standards, that could be seen as a retrogressive step, but nevertheless the violin has a clear and penetrating tone which is not unduly harsh. "

violin by Antonio Stradivari, 1694 (Baillot-Pomerau) - The provenance of the Baillot-Pommerau is fascinating for what it suggests about nineteenth century social European history. It was originally acquired by Pierre Baillot (1771-1842) a contemporary of Niccolo Paganini. Baillot was amongst the first of the urban professional musicians who, as a result of their talents and in his case French political influence in the early nineteenth century, developed a local and international reputation. To some extent he established practices and procedures which...

violin by Antonio Stradivari, 1712 (Le Brun) - This instrument seems to have spent much of the 19th century in France. The first recorded owner is a M. Le Brun, who sold the violin to the Boutillier family. It subsequently passed to a Signor Signicelli, who was known as a violinist in Paris in the late 19th century. In 1922 it was sold by the Parisian dealers Caressa & Francais to Herr Otto Senn of Basel, and it has remained in the possession of his family ever since.

violin by Antonio Stradivari, 1734 (Scotland University) - A handsome violin of large size probably built on the 'G' form, this Stradivari shows the participation of the son Francesco who had an important role in the workshop by this time. Like violins of its type such as the 'Ames' and 'Habaneck', the soundholes are slightly askew with the treble soundhole set noticeably higher. The back is from foreign-grown maple and the arches are noticeably full to the edges. The head and corner work also express the participation of the talented Francesco. "
