Alarm Clocks
The clock reads half six in the morning and while the rest of the sane world is sleeping, the last thing you want is to cut short your favourite dream. You know the dream where you are swimming the breast stroke through an Olympic sized pool of biscuits? That very one. And so close to the part where the filter explodes flakes. Unfortunately if there is any chance of accomplishing this dream, one must go to work. Even if you don't have to head to an office, it is common to need wake up assistance. The alarm clock was invented for just that purpose, and if you snore as soundly as you sleep you will need a good one.
Questions to Ask Oneself Before Purchasing- Easy or Advanced?
- Do I want something that has tons of special features or that hardly requires instructions?
- Can my three year old Chihuahua press the snooze button for me?
- Is there a snooze button?
- Sound
- 'What alarm sounds are featured?
- Is the alarm a radio? A buzzer? Rain dripping against a window pain? Maniacal laughing?
- How much power do I have in controlling what I wake up to in the morning?
- Can I alternate between buzzing sounds and music?
- Is the sound loud enough to wake me?
- Special Features
- Am I looking for more than an alarm clock?
- Do I need the latest technology?
- How many features can they possibly pack into the smallest gadget I can find?

Different Alarm Clocks to Suit Different Needs

|
Twin Bell Alarm Clock - This classic style alarm adds a charming touch when decorating.
- Although this type of clock gives little variety when it comes to wake up calls, it is very loud, so if you need a foghorn in your ear to wake up this may be a good choice.
- If you rely on the snooze button this probably won't be what you're looking for since it lacks that feature (unless of course you want to be late).
|
Clock Radio - The clock radio enables you to choose between a buzzer or an AM/FM radio station to wake up. It doubles as a radio when not on wake up duty.
- These models are fairly common; they can be found easily and for a reasonable price. Price varies in accordance with the special features included.
- The digital face clearly shows you what time it is, even in the pre-coffee fogginess of the morning. Just make sure to set the right time when you get it!
- Additional features such as multiple alarms, built in CD players, and additional stations are available in certain models.
|
Travel Alarm Clock - Don't want to miss that 20 hour bus tour of Rome's famous churches? A travel alarm clock is good to bring with you whether travelling for business or pleasure.
- Operates on batteries so if you are going to use this device, bring an extra pair.
- Even as an everyday alarm clock it is good for small spaces such as a work desk or cluttered bedroom.
- Wakes you up even on holiday. Yay!
|
Biobrite Digital Alarm Clock - Wakes you up with a combination of light and sound.
- The light feature allows your body to mimic its natural tendencies to sleep at dusk and wake at dawn (no matter what time it is).
- The junior version has sun and moon shadows that play on the ceiling and lull kids to sleep.

Additional things to Consider - The presence of a back light
- A person often needs to wake up in complete darkness. It can be hard to read the time without the presence of a back light. Think about this when deciding to purchase the light-less version because it looks prettier.
- Analogue or digital?
- I suppose this just chalks up to taste, but it could be the difference between getting there on time or not.
- Do you easily read analogue clocks? Or is it much easier for you to see the numbers large and in your face?
- What kind of watch do you wear? You might want to get an alarm clock that matches the face you are used to seeing.
- Energy Source
- Does your alarm clock need to be portable? It would be better to get a battery operated one here.
- Would you rather get a plug in so that you don't have to waste money on batteries?
- Or maybe you would like an alarm clock that works on batteries or house current?
Multi-purposeful Alarm Clocks
If you are looking to buy another electronic device in addition to the alarm clock, you may not have to! There are many modern alarms that have all kinds of uses including calendars, music, and night lights for children. Some of these models may seem expensive, but you can save money by opting for the two in one rather than the two in two. Plus who needs all these electronics messing up your feng shui?
