Annuals 

African Daisy 

  • Likes warm sunny days and cool nights.
  • Can take a lot of abuse but thrive with rich soil and moderate moisture.

Ageratum 

  • Grow in pretty colours: lavender-blue, pink, lilac, and white.
  • Grow well in partial sun or shade.
  • Easy to grow--good for beginners.

Alyssum 

  • Small (6 to 9" tall ) and delicate.
  • Grow in pink, violet, purple, and lavender.
  • Easy to grow.
  • Put them in full or partial sun.

Angelonia 


Aster 

  • From the Greek "Astron" for star, describing the shape of its flower head.
  • Come in a wide range of colors.
  • Thrive from late summer to early fall.
  • Give them full sun.

Baby's Breath 

  • Need full sun and drained soil.
  • Can withstand short periods of drought.
  • Grow to between 12 and 18" tall.
  • Beautiful in bouquets-- cut them when the blooms are half open.

Bachelor Buttons 

  • Also called "cornflower"
  • Grow so copiously with so little care that it is often a child's first planted flower.
  • Equally nice in your garden as in your button hole (hence, the name).
  • Give them full sun.

Bacopa 

  • Grows best in window boxes, as it hangs low.
  • Tolerant to lower temperatures.
  • Partial sun.
  • Water frequently in the summer.

Bellflower 

  • Comes in many varietes--some 6"-9" in height, others up to 3'.
  • White or shades of lavender.
  • Stake taller varieties, especially if they're in the shade.

Bells of Ireland 

  • They get their name from their green color, not their origin, which is actually Western Asia.
  • Pair them with purple flowers or put them in a pot for color or height contrast, respectively.
  • Full sun and regular water.

Calendula 

  • Also known as pot marigold.
  • Petal colours range from pastel yellow to deep orange.
  • Edible petals are great in salads.
  • Plant them in a sunny area with well drained soil.

Calibrachoa 

  • Wide variety of colours: pink, red, yellow, orange, violet, blue, white, and red.
  • Ranges from 0.25 to 0.75' in height.
  • Give full sun and medium water.
  • Great in hanging baskets or for ground cover.

Celosia 

  • Also called Cockscomb
  • Can grow in any type of soil as long as they are given full sun.
  • Can weather heat and drought.
  • Height can range from 6" to 3'.
