Baseball Gloves Buying Guide

Finding an adequate baseball glove can be difficult, but baseball's popularity is slowly growing in the UK and finding the right glove has never been easier. Most stores do not carry baseball equipment, so your best bet is to find your equipment online.

If you are looking for a glove for your child, you will most likely want a normal infield glove. Small and versatile, this type of glove is ideal for playing multiple positions. However, if your child is interested in playing catcher, you will want to invest in a catcher's mitt at some point, as the extra padding for the palm will prevent excess pain from repetitive high-speed pitching.

If you are older, and playing baseball at a higher level, you may want a glove specialized to your position. Here are some of the most popular brands of baseball gloves:

Outfield gloves

Infield gloves

Compact design allows for quick catch and release.

Pitcher's gloves

Catcher's mitts

Thicker padding around the fingers and palms for added protection.

First base gloves

Larger pocket and extended fingers for added scooping ability.

When you get your new glove, it will be stiff and difficult to manoeuvre. Try rubbing it with baseball glove conditioning oil placing two baseballs  in the pocket, tying a rubber band around it and leaving it overnight. By morning, you should have a flexible, agile baseball glove.
