Body Moisturisers Buying Guide
Some of us need a little extra moisture on our skin. Face creams work wonders for the face, but what about the rest of the body? Body moisturisers make the rest of your skin super soft and healthy. For those with dry skin, it's a year-round beauty must-have. Those with normal skin may find themselves needing a little extra moisture during the drying cold winter. Choosing a body moisturiser is not too difficult, but we have a few tips to completely ensure that you find the absolute perfect body moisturiser for your specific needs.
Body Moisturisers by Skin Type
For the most part, body moisturisers are labelled with the types of skin that they are made for. Here are some extra guidelines to help you choose the perfect body moisturiser. - Normal Skin: Those with normal skin have it super easy when choosing a moisturiser. A basic body moisturiser will suit you just fine. Look for moisturisers with a SPF to help ensure that your skin remains easy to care for.
- Sensitive Skin: Find a fragrance-free moisturiser.
Natural and organic body moisturisers are usually the best choice for those with skin sensitive to too much chemicals.
- Dry Skin: Look for thick moisturising creams that contain essential oils,
shea butter, and cocoa butter. Moisturisers that include an exfoliating chemical, such as 1% or 2% BHA (salicylic acid), might help to rid your skin of the dead flakes. For moisture during the summer months when creams can be too heavy, try periodically spraying a moisturising mist on your skin. It won't be heavy, but it will keep your skin from becoming parched.
- Acne-Prone Skin: If you have acne on your body (and not just your face), then you need a moisturiser that will treat your blemishes without clogging pores. Always make sure to use an exfoliating body cleanser
before using moisturiser. Look for traces of sulphur or clay to dry up blemishes and tea tree oil to help disinfect your skin from bacteria. Another option for the winter months if you have dry skin to boot, is a moisturising gel. They absorb quickly, won't clog pores and provide plenty of skin nourishment. Avoid thick butters or oils as they tend to clog the pores. See Acne Treatments for more information.
- Mature Skin: If you want to firm up ageing skin and treat signs of ageing on your body, look for a body moisturiser that specifically markets ageing skin or firming abilities.

Mist: Light, barely-there moisture that is perfect for summer and those that just want to add a touch of moisture to their skin. |
Oil: Perfect for locking in moisture directly after a shower. Those with dry skin will need to use a more creamy moisturiser in addition to this, especially in the winter. |
Lotion: The average body moisturiser. Perfect for those with normal skin, but it's not going to cut it for those with dry skin. |
Cream/Mousse/Butter: Now this is what all you dry-skin beauties need. Avoid if you are looking for just a touch of moisture, because these babies add tons of moisture to the skin. Not for those prone to acne breakouts on their body. |
