Face Powders Buying Guide

Though you may see it in almost every vintage movie out there, not everyone needs face powders They are primarily used to reduce shininess, specifically that caused by the oily T-zone (forehead and nose) that many of us suffer from. The latest trends often shun face powder, claiming that it can make a face look too old and actually draw notice to imperfections. However, if used properly, it can give you a flawless complexion. So how do you make sure that your face powder becomes a hit and not a miss?

Tips

  • Try to match your skin tone as much as possible. If you go too dark, it'll look like you have dirt smudged on your face. Going too light can make you look too pale. If you are undecided between two shades, always go with the lighter shade.
  • Don't wear too much! Those with good skin will end up looking worse if they pack on too much powder, and those with wrinkles risk actually drawing attention to lines and wrinkles. Always apply in light amounts, as it's easier to add more than to subtract some.
  • Decide if pressed  or loose powder  is right for you. Younger people who want a light, refining look should go with a loose powder. Pressed powder, however, is much easier to apply on the go due to its convenient compact-style.
  • Apply powder after you apply foundation  and concealer
  • Use a tissue after apply to wipe excess powder from your face.
  • Want a light look? Use a powder brush isn't of a powder puff.
  • As with almost all makeup products, blending is key.
