Makeup Tips By Age Buying Guide

Makeup  can look good, if worn correctly, no matter what your age. Whether you are 15 or 85, it's important to know the products that will hide the bad and highlight the wonderful. So how do you know how to put your best face forward? No worries, we have plenty of advise on what your makeup routine should include. Remember, these are just guidelines. If you are 50, but your skin still screams 30 (lucky you), then wear makeup like a 30 year old! Likewise, if you have problem skin, you'll need a little extra coverage. Whatever your situation, we will make sure you look nothing short of gorgeous!

Twenties

For the Face

Make sure you go light on covering up your face. Chances are, you won't have skin this good ever again in your life. It's okay to apply a little foundation, but go for one that provides light coverage and has an SPF. Skin care should be your first concern, so load up an exfoliating face scrub  and a moisturiser (with SPF again. Our lovely sun is one of the leading causes of skin ageing, not to mention skin cancer). If you want to add some colour to your cheeks, go with a cream blush  and blend well.

Stila Sheer Color with SPF
Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer
Cover Girl CG Smoothers
Clinique City Cover Compact Concealer SPF 15
Almay Clear Complexion Concealer
L'Oréal True Match Concealer

For the Lips

Have some fun! Experiment a little. The most important thing to keep in mind is to only highlight one feature at a time. Don't go out with bold lips and bold eyes, or you are sure to look a bit clownish. Stick with tinted gloss  and sheer lipsticks Matte lipstick will end up making you look too done up (but not in a good way). Use lip liner when you are filling your lips with a juicy, bold colour. Just like with your face, it's important to keep your lips healthy. Gently brush your lips after brushing your teeth to help shave off dead skin. Keep your lips moisturised with a lip balm with SPF.

For the Eyes

The eyes are usually what most women in their twenties choose to highlight. Again, it's perfectly fine to experiment with colours. The best thing to keep in mind is the time of day. Heavy, dark eye makeup doesn't look good at 8AM. Go with lighter makeup and lighter colours during the day, then break out the smoky eye look when the sun goes down.

Thirties

For the Face

Okay, so it's probably time for a little extra coverage. However, it's still important not to overdo the foundation/concealer thing (you don't want to look pasty). Focus on a good skin care regimen, complete with plenty of firming creams  and scrubs.

Forties and Beyond

For the Face

Your biggest goal is to keep your skin moist and hydrated. Look for cream and liquid products for your face, not matte ones. Cream blush cream foundation and liquid concealer  will plump your skin and help hide wrinkles, blemishes, and other signs of ageing.

Recommended Products:

CG Smoothers
L'Oréal Visible Lift Line Minimizing Makeup
Neutrogena Visibly Firm Moisturizing Makeup
Lola Creme Foundation
Lancôme Absolute Makeup cream blush
L'Oréal Cashmere Perfect
Fresh Blush Cream
Paula Dorf Cream Cheek Color

For the Eyes

Here, you actually want to avoid cream and mousse products. Use an eye shadow primer  first, then dust a light coat of powder eye-shadow on. Avoid products that look glittery. Use an off-white coloured eye pencil to line the inside corner of your eyes to diffuse attention to crow's feet and undereye wrinkles. Stick with neutral tones when it comes to eye shadows, and switch from black eye-liner to dark brown. Use a powder eye-shadow to fill in any gaps in your eyebrows.

Recommended Products:

NARS Eye Brightener
Philosophy the Supernatural Color Corrector
Vital Radiance Smoothing Eye Primer
Pantina Shimmer Pencil
Cargo Eye Lighter
Rimmel Cool Touch Shadow
Tom Ford collection

For the Lips

Give lips a boost with ceramid and peptide infused lipsticks, liners, or balms. To get a great look every day, first start with a non-feathering waxy lip pencil. Coat lips with a sheer, never matte, lipstick in a blue base (to help make teeth look whiter). Top with touch of gloss and you're ready to go!
